Lecturer: Olena Kanivets, PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Geodesy and Land Management, Sumy National Agrarian University
Target Audience: students of the Construction Department of Hlukhiv Agrotechnical Professional College of Sumy NAU (groups 11PB, 12PB, and 31L), as well as academic staff.
Within the framework of the guest lecture on «Horizontal Surveying of Terrain», key theoretical and practical aspects of direct relevance to the construction industry were considered. Particular attention was paid to the role of geodetic measurements in the processes of design, preparation, and execution of construction works.
The lecturer presented the theoretical and practical foundations of horizontal surveying, in particular revealing the essence of theodolite surveying as a basic method for determining the plan position of points in construction. The structure, types, and operating principles of theodolites were characterized, and the main methods of measuring horizontal angles and conducting surveys on construction sites were discussed. Special attention was given to the stages of work – from preparatory and fieldwork to office (data processing) stages, including coordinate calculations, accuracy assessment, and error elimination.
This was followed by a pleasant discussion and active exchange of ideas, during which participants had the opportunity to ask questions and share their impressions.
At the end of the event, an interactive Kahoot game was conducted, which contributed to knowledge assessment, increased student engagement, and enhanced the learning process.
The event demonstrated the relevance of the topic and contributed to the development of professional competencies of future specialists in the field of construction.
