Lecturer: Tetyana Myronenko – Representative of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights in the Sumy region, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor of the Department of Justice and Philosophy of the SNAU.
Target audience: students of I and II levels of higher education in the following specialties: 081 Law, 293 International Law, 232 Social Security, III level of higher education in the specialty 081 “Law”, teaching staff of Sumy NAU, VSP “Sumy Professional College of SNAU”, VSP “Putyvl Professional College of SNAU”, structural subdivisions of SNAU.
During the lecture by Ms. Tetyana, the legal aspects of the activities of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights in conditions of armed conflict were analyzed in detail, who exercises parliamentary control over the observance of constitutional rights and freedoms of man and citizen in accordance with Article 101 of the Constitution of Ukraine and the Law of Ukraine “On the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights”. Particular attention was paid to the issues of protecting the rights of the civilian population, military personnel, prisoners and deportees in the context of human rights violations occurring in the combat zone.
Mechanisms for responding to appeals from citizens suffering from the consequences of the armed conflict were outlined, in particular, through monitoring visits, legal education activities and participation in international cooperation to ensure the protection of human rights.
Tetyana Yevhenievna, shared her experience in monitoring the legal situation in the region, and also focused on cooperation with international organizations and representatives of international humanitarian missions to ensure the protection of human rights in conditions of armed conflict. Such activities comply with international human rights standards, including the requirements of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, as well as the provisions of international humanitarian law, in particular the Geneva Conventions.
